Aw, Shucks - Tenant Resource Center

Aw, Shucks

Hello, lovelies.

We had a delightful party on Friday, October 21, which you were invited to! Which you may not have known about. But we were so glad that folks made it out for the event (and if you didn't, I pinky swear that I'll tell you *before* the next one, not after).

Our fundraisers are pretty special for us. The whole staff comes out, not because it's a work obligation, but because it's our chance to take a breath, look around, and see (and share!) the good that we've done. We take stock with the folks who come, and we celebrate. It's a wonderful moment.

This time, we had 5 amazing chefs who cooked for us, and delighted our senses in our Master Chef competition, in Battle Lemon. The chefs were: Sarah Gilmore (winner!!!), Nicole Bookhout, Leslie Elkins & Elizabeth Folberg, Joel Girard, Shadayra Kilfoy-Flores, Conner Wild. To supplement our incredible lemon offerings, food was donated by: Daisy Cafe and Cupcakery, Glass Nickel Pizza Co, Willy St. Co-op, Banzo, Pizza Hut, Papa John's and Ian's Pizza. And the delightful Jeanne Erickson helped put everything together.

We had amazing silent auction donations, which folks snapped up! We love it when you support the businesses (and people! and radio station!) who support us, so here's your chance:

Lastly, we have some upcoming events, which you should look out for:

  • Brenda Konkel (our passionate Executive Director) is speaking on a panel on October 27, about "Evicted," the UW's Big Read book selection. You can go to the panel (information here), and you can make a donation to keep low-income tenants from becoming homeless through the eviction process. Our GoFundMe campaign will go directly to eviction prevention funds AT EVICTION COURT. This is amazing stuff.
  • There's a Dane County budget amendments hearing TONIGHT, and one of the amendments would support counseling for tenants. If you have the time, go and speak for it! More information here. This would allow us to support residents outside the City of Madison (which has been a big gap for us since we lost funding last year), and would allow me to blog more. So, there you go. Instant motivation.
