Mediation Coordinator

Position:     Mediation Coordinator

Hours:         Full time, limited evenings/weekend work required

Benefits:     18 paid personal/vacation days annually plus paid holidays

Salary:        $36,400/year

 

Reporting:   The Mediation Coordinator reports to the Operations Team

 

Job Duties:                           

  • Provide information and answer questions about housing rights and responsibilities to tenants, landlords, and service providers.
  • Facilitate and coordinate all steps of the in and out of court mediation process, including: preparation, disclosure, and participation.
  • Record statistical data and assist in contract reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Tenant Resource Center's out-of-court, "upstream" housing mediation service.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and schedule a team of volunteer mediators.
  • Participate in housing and tenant service provision with nonprofits, government agencies, and other community partners.
  • Other duties as assigned which may vary based on grant requirements and staffing changes.

 

Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish or Hmoob preferred.
  • Legal, case management, or human service work experience preferred, but not required.
  • Understanding of the basic tenets of alternative dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities in extreme personal crisis.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, including ability to respond patiently to crisis situations.
  • History of positive working relationships with people of diverse racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Be trained or able to be trained as a housing counselor in local, state, and federal housing laws, consumer protection laws, and small claims court procedures.
  • Be trained or able to be trained as a mediator.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently and with close attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain a neutral third party in high-stress environments.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule.

 

Additional Information

While a bachelor's degree is preferred, a college degree is not required for this position. Applicants who do not hold educational requirements but believe they hold necessary skills from other means are encouraged to apply. Well-qualified candidates will have experience working in housing services, legal services, and/or alternative dispute resolution. Individuals seeking part-time employment are also encouraged to apply. Personal transportation is helpful, but not required.
