Program Director

Position: Program Director/Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator

Hours: Full time, limited evenings/weekend work required.

Benefits: 18 paid personal/vacation days annually plus paid holidays

Salary: $37,440/year

 

Job Duties:

• Approximately 25% of the position is assisting with program management, including reporting for our various programs and grant writing.

• Approximately 35% of the position is recruiting, training and supervising volunteer housing counselors and providing supporting materials for their work. This includes answering many questions about the law for volunteers and staff.

• Approximately 20% of the position is coordinating outreach and media activities. Public speaking and teaching seminars on tenant-landlord law are required. Presenting to groups of tenants, landlords, and housing professionals about housing laws and legislative changes, and scheduling staff to make such presentations is required.

• Approximately 20% of the position is writing and editing content for the website, brochures, housing counselor training guide and two books. This requires careful review of the law and of frequent law changes.

• This position is constantly changing and is likely to be impacted by “other duties as assigned” by the Executive Director.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

• Ability to be trained as a housing counselor in local, state and federal housing laws, consumer protection laws and small claims court procedures.

• Must enjoy public speaking and teaching.

• Excellent writing and editing skills.

• Adept at changing technology and knowledge of advanced features in Word and Excel plus experience with Access.

• Skilled time management and tracking of multiple deadlines.

• Outgoing personality that gets along with many personality types.

• History of positive working relationships with people of diverse racial/ethnic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.

• Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.

• Creative problem-solving skills including ability to respond creatively to crisis situations.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Commitment to small non-profit.

• Flexibility—no two days are ever the same and rarely go as planned.

• The following skills are preferred but not mandatory:
     o Supervisory experience
     o Bi-lingual in Spanish, Hmoob or ASL
     o Grant reporting and grantwriting experience
