...Do you want to give people real solutions to real problems?
...Can you commit to at least 3 hours/week for one year in our Madison office?
Become a Housing Counselor volunteer at Tenant Resource Center!
In this role, you will work directly with a diverse group of clients, answering their questions about their rights and responsibilities, and helping them solve their rental housing problems. On any given day, you might...
- Keep a disabled tenant safe in their home by walking them through the process for getting repairs made
- Teach a low-income family about their rights in the eviction process and how to get help paying rent
- Help a new landlord avoid discrimination in their application process
- ...and much more!
WHEN: Saturday May 21 & Sunday May 22 from 10am - 4pm (both days are required)
WHERE: Social Justice Center (1202 Williamson Street in Madison)
All materials and lunch are provided in this fully wheelchair accessible building. The class covers all areas of tenant landlord law and referrals that you will need to know in order to help our clients. After the training, new volunteers sign up to shadow with experienced counselors as they begin working one-on-one with clients. We ask for a minimum commitment of 3 hours/week for 1 year and shifts can be scheduled anytime during our normal office hours: 9am - 6pm, Monday - Friday.
