We are looking for an Eviction Prevention Specialist who wants to use their experience, knowledge, and passion to help make a difference and be a part of this important work. Our services are all centered on eviction prevention and stable housing, including housing counseling, housing case management, mediation services, eviction diversion, rental assistance, outreach and education, and housing law seminars. TRC also created and manages an eviction defense program in partnership with local housing attorneys. Compensation and Benefits:
TRC pays 100% of the monthly premiums for individual and family health, dental, and vision plans. Eviction Prevention Specialists serve as the main point of contact for the Tenant Resource Center’s Eviction Prevention programs by helping tenants and landlords navigate the various application processes for financial assistance and handle intakes for the Coordinated Entry system. Additionally, Eviction Prevention Specialists assist tenants with short-term housing case management where allowed by the funding source or program area.
Position Type: Full-Time (36 hours), some weekends and evenings required; Non-Exempt

Roles and Responsibilities:
As an Eviction Prevention Specialist, you will:
Emergency Rental Assistance Responsibilities:
- Assist tenants and landlords in completing applications for rental assistance
- Provide referrals or other community resources as necessary to assist tenants with protecting their rental rights
- Provide housing counseling, rental rights information, and other forms of resource navigation on rental rights and responsibilities centering around tenant-landlord law in the State of Wisconsin
- Navigate the court process with tenants in connection with the Tenant Resource Center’s Housing Counseling, Mediation, and other programs
- Provide logistical support for program needs, including documentation, payment processing, or other duties as assigned
Direct Community-Based Outreach and Short-Term Case Management Responsibilities:
- Direct Community-Based Outreach:
- Work with tenants and landlords (either over the phone, via email, or out in the community) to assist with financial assistance applications, resource navigation, and other community services to protect rental rights and provide information about rental responsibilities
- Inform tenants and landlords about rental assistance programs, case management resources, or other resources that assist with housing stability as needed
- Short-Term Case Management (Where funding restrictions allow):
- Provide housing case management focused on securing housing stability with program participants who are either experiencing homelessness or housing instability
- Employ a housing-first strategy and philosophy when working with participants
- Connect with landlords in the community in order to assist participants in finding their own housing
- Create individualized housing plans and set goals with participants; have flexibility around participant needs and update plans as appropriate
- Connect participants with other agencies that can provide non-housing-related services as needed
- Maintain case notes and client files of participant meetings and record all services provided to participants in the designated database system(s)
- Understand and ensure compliance with detailed program regulations regarding services provided and documentation collected
- Attend regular supervision, case management meetings, and relevant trainings
- Receive training on other homeless services case management programs within Tenant Resource Center as assigned and maintain competency in those programs; provide services to participants from other programs as needed and fill in for other case managers when they are out of the office
- Receive housing counseling training and update training as needed (at a minimum of once per quarter) in order to provide well-informed housing services to program participants
- Provide short-term housing case management (up to 3 months) focused on stabilizing participants who are at risk of losing their current housing through eviction; manage a caseload comprised of individuals or families
Coordinated Entry Responsibilities:
- Complete screening assessments with people who are requesting eviction prevention assistance throughout Dane County; evaluate whether applicants are eligible for Tenant Resource Center assistance, and refer people who are ineligible to other agencies for assistance
- Manage and maintain the coordinated entry eviction prevention screening tool which is used throughout the Dane County Homeless Services Consortium
- Collaborate with other agencies within the Homeless Services Consortium to maximize effectiveness of the eviction prevention screening tool
- Provide information and referrals about rental rights and responsibilities to tenants and landlords including details about navigating the eviction process
- BSW, related degree, or 1 year of homeless services/case management experience required; applicants with MSW or related degree preferred
- Applicants who do not hold educational or experimental requirements but believe they hold necessary skills from other means are encouraged to apply
- Understanding of harm-reduction practices, motivational interviewing skills, and trauma-informed care
- Ability to manage affect and maintain professional boundaries
- Ability to remain calm when responding to potentially life-threatening crises
- Organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills; especially skilled at taking complicated information and making it more accessible

- Ability to hold compassion and empathy for all people and desire to provide client-centered care to program participants; requires a high degree of cultural competency.
With or without a reasonable accommodation, an Eviction Prevention Specialist must be able to:
- Work sitting and/or standing for long periods of time in the office and at other locations in the community
- Work in a busy office environment with exposure to loud noises, fluorescent lighting, potential ink fumes, contact with synthetic materials, and air conditioning
- Use a computer for the entire workday
- Carry up to 20 pounds, including a laptop, outreach materials, and other items
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:
TRC employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Under current CDC guidelines, an individual is considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the single-dose vaccine or two weeks after the second dose in a two-dose vaccination.
