More renters faced eviction in Dane County in the past three months than at any point in at least the past five years, according to the latest Tenant Resource Center data. Landlords filed for 803 evictions between January 1st and March 31st, a 19% jump from the previous quarter.

Over the coming months, the largest portion of funds for the EDDP will continue to wind down. As a recap, the EDDP’s largest source of funding comes from federal Emergency Rental Assistance (“ERA”) funds. Over the course of the pandemic, Dane County received substantial amounts of financial assistance targeted towards renters impacted by COVID-19 and the financial hardship that ensued. These funds provided many renters a much needed reprieve during a time of economic struggle. However, in addition to their tangible benefits for tenants and landlords, these funds also provided opportunities to evaluate methods of providing large scale emergency rental assistance here in Dane County.
