A nonprofit that helps renters navigate issues with their landlords is moving to a new location on Madison’s East Side, with an opening slated for Jan. 2.

The Tenant Resource Center is in the process of moving out of its roughly 2,000-square-foot office at 1202 Williamson St. and into a much larger 5,000-square-foot space at 2510 Winnebago St.

The bigger office includes two conference rooms, a room for rental tenants facing eviction court to meet with their attorneys virtually, expanded office space for employees and a waiting area, said executive director Hannah Renfro. Before the pandemic, the nonprofit had nine workers. Now, it has 30.

The Winnebago Street location allows the Tenant Resource Center to be more accessible to those who need the nonprofit’s services, Renfro said, which include information and referrals, education about rental rights and responsibilities, and conflict resolution help.

“We outgrew that space,” said Chrisbelly Antimo, Tenant Resource Center associate director.

The nonprofit will continue to offer its services at the Madison Area Technical College Goodman South campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, and will offer services in mid-January at Sunshine Place, a social services organization in Sun Prairie at 18 Rickel Road, three days a week, Renfro said.

“We are meeting people where they are,” Renfro said of the move.
