Shorewood Hills Neighborhood - Housing Crisis Fund

Endorsed by the Village of Shorewood Hills Social Justice Committee.

Goal: To raise $10K to prevent Dane County families from losing their housing.

Impact: If 10 neighborhood groups raise $10K together, we can maintain secure housing for 100 families in our community who are at high risk of losing their homes.

What: The upcoming expiration of the CDC eviction moratorium (December 31st) will result in an unprecedented number of Dane County residents facing eviction. As of late November, 15,000 households were on the waiting list for financial help to pay rent. (Read more) Families who have never faced homelessness before are being pushed out of their homes, and those who have experienced homelessness are even more at risk. Helping folks remain in their own homes is an important line of defense against the spread of COVID-19. To protect everyone’s health during a pandemic, we must protect those most likely to contract, spread, and die from infectious diseases: That means prioritizing families steeped in poverty and people of color, who are more likely to be evicted and more likely to suffer severe health harms from COVID-19.

How: This fund will provide support to individuals and families in Dane County who are at highest risk of losing their housing. It will be managed and allocated by the Tenant Resource Center to make the maximum impact through uses like rental assistance, utility payments, and rental rights support.

About TRC: The Tenant Resource Center (TRC) is a non-profit membership organization based in Madison and is supported by dedicated volunteers, community advocates, and our neighbors like you. For the past 40+ years, TRC has provided tenants and landlords with information about their rental rights and responsibilities, provided eviction prevention assistance, and helped those who are most vulnerable in our community secure and protect their housing. This summer, TRC disbursed nearly 10 million dollars of rental assistance - effectively preventing thousands of eviction filings while educating tenants and landlords about their rights and responsibilities.

Your support helps ensure that we have the resources needed to continue our work for Housing Justice in Wisconsin!
